I worked in a job that required interaction with many job types in Xerox from front line technicians and mailroom associates to VPs and Sr VPs and one thing I know is that Burns is the most hated CEO in Xerox history by far and is considered also the most incompetent. One bit of news that's rarely publicized is that large numbers of Xerox employees have had their salaries cut by up to 20+ % as one of many onerous cost savings initiatives and mostly the only reason that Xerox often meets WS earnings estimates. Of course this doesn't stop the incessant layoffs and total sense of INsecurity at Xerox. Things like this along with Ursula's out sized pay package have not exactly endeared her to her employees. A good portion of the Xerox board and Burns needs to go ASAP to give Xerox any chance at survival. These things are well known and commonly spoken of at the company. To bad Wall Street doesn't get it and refuses to force the change.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05048968375902279380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912635087174001904.post-75930027855116324012015-12-04T11:49:48.309-05:002015-12-04T11:49:48.309-05:00Just read this additional article on the lies of h...Just read this additional article on the lies of higher education. Windows 10 still is and will be remembered in Microsoft's history - or even computing history - as the biggest disrespect toward users and biggest "big brother" os that ever existed. Not to worry though, this mentality of not giving a damn about the user is prevalent today from browsers to operating systems and android and iOs apps, pretty much in everything tech.
Chrome/Chromium and Firefox are blatant examples of not caring absolutely at all what users want, and the once famous "windows replacement", Ubuntu, has basically lost all its userbase due to the move from Gnome2 to Unity and from KDE to Kde plasma. The list could continue, but since you say that you've spent enough time in corporate environments, you know what I mean.

Changes are no longer made to improve ANYTHING. Changes are made because of fear of becoming insignificant if you don't make them. And change for the sake of change is NOT development, but outright stupid.
WindowsAndLinuxhttp://www.computershowto.pronoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4912635087174001904.post-28015785679482262922015-02-18T15:33:14.138-05:002015-02-18T15:33:14.138-05:00Thanks for the articles, have book marked them and...Thanks for the articles, have book marked them and will definitely be taking forward some of their advice. Good post. How long were, or have ...Hey Darrin -

Good post. How long were, or have you been, in the banking industry? You nailed several of the staffing issues that are prevalent in the field. I spent 10+ years at a community bank. One year getting my bearings - four training new tellers (I saw that turnover!) - five behind the scenes in Operations/Security/Networking.

I really laughed at your point about the VP titles being handed out like Ben Kingsley handed out achievement certificates in Searching for Bobby Fischer. Of the non-tellers at our bank, 70% or more of the employees were Assistant VPs, VPs, or Senior VPs.

It's an unfortunate reality that everyone in middle management and higher, particularly executive-level, have to live in fear of auditors. Then management has to dictate findings and 'solutions' to their front-line staff, even though they have forgotten what it's like to be in those positions.

Auditors demand dual-control for almost every aspect of the bank. If you're a front-line employee tasked with truly helping a customer, your hands are often tied by this - whether in the form of software overrides that require a supervisor or simple policies, log books, etc.

Thus, it is nearly impossible to empower these members of a staff that interact with customers face-to-face all day. In fact, just the opposite happens, where bank management wants to simply scream back at the auditors, "But we have to TRUST our employees at some point."

Enjoyable post.
